David Brooks, poet, novelist, storyteller and essayist, was born in Canberra in 1953. The earliest childhood spent in Greece and Yugoslavia, where his father worked as an Australian diplomat. He gained his education in Australia, America and Canada. He lectured literature at various Australian universities and was editor of numerous magazines. Currently he is an associate professor emeritus of Australian literature at the University of Sydney and co-editor of a reputable Australian literary magazine “Southerly”. He lives in the Blue Mountains in New South Wales, and a certain period each year he spends in a village on the coast of Slovenia. His poetry and prose have been translated into many languages. In 2014 he was awarded the scholarships of the Australian Council for fiction for his contribution to Australian and international literature.
